Turkey Meatballs and Yogurt Sauce

Use these meatballs as a filling for pita bread, along with lettuce, tomato and yogurt sauce.  Yum!

1-1/4 pounds lean ground turkey
1/3 cup finely minced onion
1 beaten egg
1/3 cup quick oats
1 clove minced garlic
1-1/2 teaspoon dried oregano flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried mint
1/4 teaspoon black pepper*
1/4 teaspoon salt*
1 tablespoon lemon juice
______________________________________

Combine above ingredients, mixing well.  Shape into 24 balls.  Add a little olive oil  to non-stick skillet and cook meatballs for 10 minutes or until brown and no pink remains in center.  Be sure to turn meatballs so all sides are browned.

*If desired, substitute 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper for the salt and pepper.  Reduce lemon juice to 1 teaspoon.

Yogurt Sauce

1 cup yogurt or non-fat sour cream
1 small cucumber, peeled and finely chopped
1-2 cloves minced garlic (optional)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Mix sauce ingredients together and chill for 30 minutes.  Amount of cucumber can be varied to taste.  Sometimes I add a little chopped onion and a dash of curry powder and dried parsley or mint.
